Name:  Alison Pierce

Business:  Alison Pierce Photography

Specialty:  Weddings

Location:  Westford

What is your background?
I inherited an SLR camera from one grandpa and carving tools from the other, and left Illinois for college in Massachusetts knowing I'd land on some side of the visual arts. With a painting degree, I began working at galleries in Boston and also studied professional photography at NESOP. A camera always around my neck, acquaintances began to ask if they could hire me, especially to shoot b&w film at their weddings. It seemed to be just about the time that wedding couples were looking for something new from the industry -- images more inspired by documentary and fine art photography. My business grew quickly and I began shooting weddings all over New England. A couple of years later, I moved my work and and small family to Brooklyn and then later to Chicago, my hometown. There, I made the switch to digital and had a great time with a boutique multi-media studio where I continued weddings and also picked up editorial work for documentary film projects. I loved my time in each place, but I have to say that my heart always landed in the imagery of the countryside. Several years later, hello, Vermont!

How long have you been working in Vermont?
I just moved here with my husband and our little boy in early winter. My husband grew up here, so I've been admiring Vermont for a long time.

Favorite downtime activity:
drawing, taking pictures, sword-fighting with my boy

What do you enjoy about the Vermont wedding industry?
Fresh air ceremonies, amazing local food and craftsmanship, farmland beauty and ever-changing scenery, couples and celebrations as unique as this state!
